Personally, if you want me up in your face for a great shot I'll be there, but if you want a more behind the scenes photographer who just catches the little things I can do that as well. Preferences do come into play.... as I'm more of the later naturally. I can and do have fun with the more close up, beauty shots when the need arises. If they've shown no capability at being a photojournalist, don't ask them to do a photojournalistic style... It could be an experiment on your dime.
